Default Week #3 - a really nice close shave, but....

I received my sample pack of pre-shave oil and shave cream sampler from Maggard's in the mail yesterday, so I was very much looking forward to today's shave.

I did a hot towel first then applied a eucalyptus pre-shave oil and worked it in. Did another hot towel after it had time to set.

I gave the Trumpers rose shave cream sample a go. Worked up a nice lather and applied it to one side of my face above the jaw. I am still working one section of the face as I am taking it slow and concentrating on the blade angle and pressure.

The wife walks in and takes a whiff of the rose shave cream and says, "it smells like my grandmother's bathroom". That took the wind out of my sails. Again she says "it smells nice, but it reminds me of grandma's bathroom!". Nice cream, but that "endorsement" didn't sit well.

Oh well, I guess that is exactly why I bought a sample pack.

Had a very nice close shave, made one small nick...but all in all I was very pleased using the pre-shave oil.

    More practice......

That the beauty of a sample pack. You can find something you like without spending too much $. Keep it up. Sounds like you're getting the hang of it. Happy shaving.

So, what's wrong with your Grandmother's bathroom?

Yea, that is why I am not partial to rose scented soaps, they remind me of old ladies perfume.

The important question is do YOU like the scent of Trumpers Rose?

IME as long as the wife doesn't absolutely detest a scent she'll learn to like it

Too flowery for me. I tend to close up around floral perfumes. It was nice to try, but I wouldn't buy a tub of it. I am looking forward to the other 11 cream samples.

You ended the title on a "but...".

I'm not seeing the "but" downside here. Good shave. Keep it up.

My first lather after I massage the shave oil in, I massage the first lather in as well. Then either re-wet or just apply my second layer of lather. Also, for me, I use cold water except for sitting the bowl with soap and brush, puck in hot/warm while I shower.

Sounds like you're really making progress, Charles! Good on, ya, buddy.

    .

When my face reminders her of her grandmother's bathroom....that is a big "but" to me :-)

Thanks for the technique tips. I will give that a try too!

I find with the soaps and creams I have used that post shave the scent is pretty much gone. But as you say it's only a sample. I recently sent a couple of samples of creams I have to another member and in return he did the same. Obviously this isn't practical on a grand scale, but on a smaller ie one on one type situation it could be good. Anyway glad.all is going well for you.
