Thread: Touch-up mega success!

Today, using some methods I learned by reading for hours on the honing threads, I did a touch up on my Dovo's Best that I will be shaving with tomorrow (I always strop and prep my razors the day prior for weekday shaves as it shortens the time I need to be up before leaving in the morning).

I've had some truly shave-ready out of the box razors come to me, and I've done some good work keeping them up (as has Andreas the local honemeister), but the edge I just created after a touch up with chromox and a meticulous stropping is the sharpest thing I've personally ever encountered. I thought the whole "arm hairs just lie down on the blade on contact" thing was an over generalization of very light popping. Not at all. This thing is SCARY sharp, and I'm looking forward to seeing just how well it does on my face tomorrow. As I've started really pushing the envelope to try to get real BBS on my neck and chin, I've seen a sharp increase in irritation and razor burn, so I am hoping for a good clean 2 pass shave in the morning.

Damn it feels good to create an edge sharper than I've ever received from a professional honing! My face continues to challenge me when it comes to actual shaving, but as far as blade maintenance and edge creation go, I think I've had a pretty good day!

10 passes chromox on nylon web
30 passes on Dovo white pasted linen
30 passes clean nylon web
60 passes latigo leather


Also, this morning was the most successful shave I've had yet! It's nice to have EVERYTHING lock in and get a real DFS with NO irritation at all!
