The advantages of browsing the various sub forums

I don't even recall what the forum was but two days back I read someone say they'd shaved with cold water. Looked through various archives and saw a bunch of people who said YEAH, THAT'S the ticket! So today I decided to experiment. I also had read a post that suggested thinking about just shaving the shaving cream off and not worrying about the hair. So I did that too.

Result was the best shave experience to date (which isn't much considering the short history but, no matter, it was the best). Was it the visualizing the shaving soap removal or the cold water? Or just a part of the steep learning curve. Don't know and that's why one should never change more than two variables at a time!

Anywho, tomorrow's going to be cold water again to see if the results are just random noise or something real.

And I would never have tried it if it hadn't been for all these varied posts. Thanks, gents!

I'd say its both.

I'm a cold water shaver and use light pressure (as if only removing the soap). I rarely if ever get razor burn.

Now today on the other hand, in my quest to master Williams mug Soap, I used hot water to finally get some decent results with the cream but my shave wasn't as comfortable. Hmm maybe it is the cold water...

I've been doing this wet shaving journey for a year and a half, but I think I'll try the shaving the shaving cream strategy. I use a little too much pressure.

There are a lot of good ideas on this and other shaving forums. You would think it would be more straight forward, but it takes more and more experience for the light to come on about about simple things we do.

I have been cold water shaving for a year because warm or hot water shaving irritated my skin too much. Cold water shaving is great.

I think I said before I was a believer in just lather up and shave as in lather up and shave using cold water. I don't want to do more than is necessary to get the job done comfortably. Some people may need to add pre and post shave showers, oils and balms and some don't. Whatever works for you.

Cold water shaves only work for me if I lather up before stropping and work the lather into my beard with my fingertips. I still like it hot better though. Cold shaves remind me too much of shaving out of a "steel pot" while in the army! Damn, just showed my age.

Wayne, we just used to use a 'cups, canteen' with water warmed up on a 'hexy' stove...Then again Australian 'giggle' hats never could hold water. I'm a cold water shaver though. Like BobH, I like to keep it as simple as possible.

I think it was Martin 103 who posts old articles. The one on cold shaving will give you lots of tips. If i can find it will post link. Since cold water no as much irritation and much easier.
