Thread: A big shout out for KISS (keep its simple stupid)

First of all special thanks to Lynn and Glenn (gssixgun) , for all the education that this forum provides and for their posts, videos and tips. Thanks also to all the members who make common sense, helpful answers to those of us newbies to SR shaving.

I have now been using a SR 2 or 3 times a week for maybe two months. Like many here, I have acquired SRAD and have bought many products/tools of the art of SR shaving. What I have finally concluded (maybe my 25th or 30th shave) is that a few simple things are the most important. The first is time. This is not a skill that most of us can pick up, let alone perfect, in 3 shaves (or 10 or maybe 100). In order to "do it right" you need to take time: to find a razor that is really shave ready (thanks to SRD and Lynn), to learn how to prepare your face (whatever way works for you) and do it adequately every time with a good soap/brush, and adequate moisture, to learn how to strop the razor properly to prepare it for the shave (which takes time to learn and time to perfect), and then how to use it (thanks again to Lynn and Glenn for the posts and videos on those topics). You need to treat your face in your mode of choice post-shave, and lastly you need to take the time to clean and store everything in an appropriate way that preserves it all for the next shave.

So, if I had to give one piece of advice it would be, take your time, do everything recommended by the real experts every time (after experimenting to see what works for you), and enjoy the time you spend doing this. I pass all tho one, because I see so much discussing of all the finer points, in which experienced folks say YMMV, and people switching things up that work just to try something different, or blaming their equipment and/or moving right not to honing which (if you've followed sound advice) you probably need to do either of.

Today for the first time since I began SR shaving, my wife came up and said, "man your face is smooth". For me, that's the best reward I could have!

Take the time to do a good job and enjoy! It's really that simple if you make it so.

Stick to the basics, use the same equipment until you learn it well before venturing into new areas. once you have the basics mastered variety is fine.

How will you know you have made it? shaving will be a joy and your S/O will be delighted with your results. My SWMBO claims she can tell a difference between my shaves if I use a wedge or a full hollow ... my face feels the same to me though.

I still have to work on my chin and adams apple shaving perfected. Rest all are fine. Even i started off from. For SR shaving this is a go to forum!
