    But not much spine wear and gold looks good!

    Looks like someone misunderstood the butter knife technique!
    I'd laugh but that is always a sad sight.

    I figure this one has 6-to-1 odds of having been owned by a Japanese user, given their proclivity for honed-out toes.

    I think this is the reason I'll never like "tapered" blades.. always reminds me of such a sad sight.
    No doubt they made them that way at times, and no doubt some beautiful work has been done in restoration of tapered blades..

    It's just that it makes me cringe when I see..

    I'm almost certain it is part of a strop mechanism, missing the leather. Also... they won't be able to strop out that bottle opener.

    Here is one I spotted in the wild.

    @Crawler,

    That may not be so crazy after all.

    Assuming: you pull on one side of the strop and the blade lays against it, then pull the other side and the blade moves to that side. If it works, it would be a fast & easy, two handed method.

    However, I think I would advertise it with a different razor.

    Actually they do work well with a new thin leather. Usually they come with a DE blade holder also. It looks like a shavette with a spine like a straight.
