Default SRD Premium 1 vs. SRD IV English Bridle

I am looking to purchase a new strop. I believe this may be another AD My question is,what is the difference between the SRD Premium 1 vs. SRD English bridle. I have heard fantastic things about both strops. I am thinking if there is a big difference between the 2(if one is used as a finisher only) it would make sence to have SRD design me a strop with both leathers,so i can use them both in my stropping rotation.

Have a read of these threads, they give some good comparison of the strops you mention by people who have tried them both.

Both are very good strops though, and both have had great reviews. Have a read of these posts and hopefully they will help you make your mind up..!

    Yay! I was linked!

My .02, If you want a strop that is great for everyday but REALLY excells as a finishing strop, Premium I is just fan-freakin'-tastic... But, for a long lasting, hard working strop, the BRridle just can't be beat. Bridle is still my favorite strop (just recently, however, the SRD Modular Paddle [which has both Premium I and Bridle options!] has become my new favorite) Bridle is just a wonderful strop.

If it's your daily strop, go Bridle. If you have a good daily strop, go Premium I, as it can be used as a daily, but really shines as a finisher strop... Or, if you have space constraints, or want both, get the Modular paddle... The Mod Paddle is phenomenal.

Or get all three. I did, and regret nothign!

    Cheers.

I don't have the Premium I, but the Premium IV is in fact phenomenal... I do a bit of honing and stropping, and it's working very well. It took a little over a week of stropping (both shaving and after honing), and it broke in very well. It's a real pleasure to use, and I'm very pleasantly surprised by how much I like the synthetic strop as well...

    I highly recommend it!

I don't wish to make any enemies in the retail dept but I found a source for American Bridle Leather in the state of Maine. I cut my own 3 inch piece of bridle leather and there is no difference between the SRD English Bridle leather and the Maine bridle leather. I cut the strop to length and had a very nice piece leftover to make a flatbed strop glued to a piece of ceramic tile. And yes, I do have the SRD English Bridle Strop. What a fantastic strop!!!

Also, I was able to provide a piece of American Bridle strop to a buddy in the great state of Missouri. He seems to think it has potential.

PM me for any additional info for the Maine source. You should buy as many strops as you can possibly afford. Why?? For the fun of it. Go get 'em.................

I did.. I bought them both halfway through reading the responses and taking your advice. They both work fantastic together as a combo. I use the synthetic webbing followed by the English bridle xtra long version and I finish with the premium one.

'Attaboy!! Now get a modular paddle!

Seriously, the paddle is pretty much all I use now... It makes my other strops sad

    Good Luck!

I own and use both. Both serve their purpose for given grind or weight of razor. One is as good as the other and they are my 2 most strops.

I'd buy both strops all over again if I had to.
