Thread: Wade & Butcher Full Concave

I've had my eye on this one for a week or so. A local antique store had her for "sale" at an outlandish sum. Well I flat walked out on the saleslady last weekend. Today, however, she was much more reasonable and I came home with this.









Half to 3/4 hollow, 5/8 blade, looks to be black horn scales. She's gonna need lots of work, but thus far I'm pretty proud.

Real nice. I like the smile profile of the edge. I find razors like that to make fine shavers.

Nice I bet your smile is wider than the grin on the razor.

I get it out just to look it, picturing what it will look like restored. I wish I could shave with her now, but I guess the work and the wait make it all the better.

I recently purchased a full concave W&B just like the one you posted pics of. Do you know how old it is or anything else about it? Can't wait to get mine ready for shaving. Thanks!!!

At the oldest 1891. “England” stamped on the blade gives it away. Country of origin was required because of the McKinley tariffs. Could be as young as 1921 as W&B was bought by another company, I’m not sure if they continued to make straights under that name. Strazors has lots of info about some of the more well known cutlers.

Nice! I've found straights at Antique Stores, but they are usually more than I'm willing to pay. Looks like a good project.
