    Default Antique Store Finds

I’ve been wanting to try restoring & honing since day one of using a Str8. I was in Mason City, Iowa last week on vacation and I stopped at a couple of antique shops to see what I could find. I Thought I’d share my finds and see what everyone thinks.

    Razors
EMDE Bros, Germany, 6/8 spike point with etching on blade, w/box.
    STERLING, 7/8 round point w/box.
Crane Brand 711 Robert Klass, Germany, 4/8 spike point.
    WEDGE, 5/8 wedge spike point.
ERIRANTONEERS ESKKSTUUNR (its hard to read from corrosion), Sweden, 5/8 spike point.

    Hones
    Franz Swaty, Marburg, Austria.
    CELTES, Marburg, Austria.
Small unmarked, looks like the Swaty

    Hardwood Box

All of the razors need some honing, some need a little more than others. The hones are pretty glassy and probably need lapped. They also have a few minor nicks but i think they're in fair shape. Not pictured, i also picked up an old spice Shulton Grand Turk mug)...looks brand new. All said, i got 5 razors, 3 hones, 2 boxes, and the mug. I spent less than $30 for everything. How’d I do?

I'd say you did quite well. Looks like all the razors should be shavable, and on Ebay just the Swaty might run you $30. I have one, and it's a great finishing stone.

Three of those razors look to have zero or almost zero hone wear, which in my world view equals ... NEW RAZORS!

All but the really rusty one should clean-up easily.

I think you got a doubleplus good deal!

I to would like a look in the box, when I go antique hunting I might then have an idea as to what to look for.
Unused antique razors seem not uncommon in my neck of the woods, and they shave well too, (Cadman) I have not actually ever bought a current made razor.

Great find, get lots of pleasure from it !!!

    Cheers
