    Jamie,

Thanks for the kind words. I love this set, too. I found the razors by chance, actually. The owner informed me about them by telephone, and I jumped in the car and drove many miles out of town. I mean, many miles. Then I saw them. They were in perfect shape. They had belonged to the owner's grandfather, and had been in storage for decades.

I had never seen a set of Wade & Butcher in such a perfect condition. They were best I had ever seen. The pre-ban ivory scales on many such razors are cracked, whereas the scales on these razors are almost pristine. I used a wee bit of Maas compound to polish the blades, that's it, and then honed them. They took a perfect edge, and I dare say, they are probably my best shavers.

I am saving the set for my two grandsons, hoping someday they will love them as much as I.

Stay well, my friend. Such a compliment from you on the razors is an honor.

May this week bring you each an adventure that ends in happiness!

Curley's “IDEAL” Safety Razor-1908, Illinois #6451, Sapon a Barbe, Sta-Fast boar, Vintage NOS Royall Lyme.

What can I say? The Day, 10ºF/ overcast..The Shave? I wax ecstatic! Oh yes, a great shave but I had to flip the guard from side to side as I did the sides of my face. An adventure for sure! I have shaved with a lot of semi and deadly appliances and this one really had me wondering. A DFS in two and a touch!

Last night with the easy removal of the guard and a little work on a Coticule with tape and then the original Pasted Illinois #6451 made hair popping easy. Thanks to the previous owners the blade was almost pristine. The strop had to have been made to keep this type of razor in good nick. It has a length of Black Emery and a length of Rouge. Clean up was not as simple as with a regular straight. The guard is removed, the mechanism left open, and the remainder dried. I found the blowing in the end of the spine removed water very well. A dip full blade into my mix of 190 Proof and baby oil and a quick dry and she is ready for the next shave..tomorrow of a generation from now.
