Speaking of Missouri, you would have to swing a pretty big dead cat to hit a "Felt Pad Razor Works" Razor from St Louis!

Here is my non shumate st. Louis razor, which also happens to be my heirloom razor, from a great uncle who I never actually met, but family nonetheless.

It's a Tombard. Don't know much else about the company.

The razor had been stored in a box in an unattached garage and was super rusty, but I cleaned it up nicely. 1/2 hollow, french point. Good shaver.

Seems old Slevin had a pile of felt lying around! He would have made a fine SRP member!

While the Herder family was famous for fine cutlery in Solingen, Herders were also in Philadelphia. Leopold Herder and Son started at 606 Arch St. in 1871. His father and relations all were cutlers in Philly! Anyone know anything else about them?

Another wonderful american maker with a lot of history for sure. Before the L. Herder & Son there was Clarenbach & herder, the Philadelphia Directory for 1856 listed this co at a different location at 154 Arch, in 1864 at 606 Arch St.

Yes! That was L. Herder's Dad! look at the bottom of it! It was an ad from L. Herder, proclaiming his lineage! The address is different, too. Looks like Samson St.? Kindof neat!
Herder lasted a good, long time!

The dates and different location are quite confusing but nevertheless a very early American cutlery co.
Founded in 1847 and aparently sold to another cutlery co in 1980!

That is something which I had read somewhere (that they got from Germany some). Still, the logo and star is all I have ever seen (on razors). No USA or Germany! American enough for me! Herder has alwas been considered good as I can recall.
