    Default Movember Time:

    Gentlemen,

Hello and good afternoon/evening. I know I have not been around for a while but I thought that I would add in my little 2 cents on this topic. This has come across my plate a couple times now, and I wonder if some of you will join in on the fun.

The Event is called Movember. Some of you might have heard of this, and if you have maybe you can fill me in on some more details if you have participated. the information can be found on: Movember - Growing Moustaches in November and I would be looking on the CDN site but am just putting the general one for everyone's benefit.

I am going to be on a team with some friends and family members up here.

Wondering if any of you will be up for the challenege of it and to support the awareness of Men's Health (Prostate Cancer, Testicle Cancer etc.) A quick Blurb from the site is here:

    What is Movember
Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a charity event held during November each year.

At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants, known as Mo Bros, have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache, raising money and awareness along the way.

Movember culminates at the end of the month at the Gala Partés. These glamorous and groomed events will see Alex Trebek look-a-likes battle it out on the catwalk for their chance to take home the prestigious Man of Movember title.

While growing a Mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas (women that support their guys or just love Mos!) form an important part of Movember with their powerful feminine touch, by recruiting Mo Bros, helping to raise funds and attending the highly anticipated Gala Partés.

But it's not all fun and games, so why the extreme behaviour?

Which ever way we look at it, men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy for men is five years less than females.
    The obvious question is why?

Men lack awareness about the very real health issue they face, have an attitude that they have to be tough - "a real man" and are reluctant to see a doctor about an illness or to go for regular medical checks.

The aim of Movember is to change this attitude. Make men's health fun by putting the moustache back on the face of Canadian men and raising some serious funds for prostate cancer.

Every year around 24,700 Canadian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 4,300 die of the disease, making it the number one cancer threat to Canadian men.

Movember is very proud to be partnering with the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada.

All donations made will go directly to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada who will use the funds to create awareness and fund research for prostate cancer.

The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada's charitable number is: BN89127 0944 RR0001. All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

We challenge you to change the face of men's health.
    .......................
So Gentlemen, I challenge you to join in raising awareness and looking goofy for those of us who can't grow moustaches and also just look bad in them. I will be posting pics of my progress and events that I am in.

    Cheers.

I have heard of this but i've always heard it called "no shave november" where a razor does not touch your face the entire month of november. There are varients however where one can pick a form of facial hair (moustache, mutton chops, goatee...you get the point) and grow it out for a month. But i usually do it every year. But since i'm 20 and can't grow a good mustache i shy away from that one :-D

I should post the rules of this as well, they are pretty simple.

    1. Once registered each mo bro must start November 1st with a clean shaven face.

    2. Then, for the entire month of Movember each mo bro must grow and groom a moustache according to these rules:
    - There are no beards
    - There are no goatees
    - A small complimentary growth under the bottom lip is allowed (aka a tickler)

    3. The Movember committee accepts no responsibility for lost jobs, lost girlfriends, rashes to you or your partner or any other such mishaps cause by a Movember mo.

I can't grow a great moustache myself either Detach so don't worry. I might have to subtly drop a hint to my boss that I am going to be doing this so they are aware at why I am looking this way at work.

I would totally do this, if for no other reason than I think I like the concept of competitive mustache growing. The good cause part only sweetens the pot.

But alas, I just got married and the wife has placed a moratorium on any additional facial hair (reasonably enough, my well kept goatee is still coarse enough to take off a layer of skin...). Oh, to be single and hairy again...
