    Default The Naturalist

Had the pleasure of completing a bucket list experience with my first shave out in the great outdoors on the weekend whilst away camping,
on day 5 this was the location we named One Tree, it is on the back of Lake Awonga in Central Queensland, Australia

Unfortunately I wasn’t smart enough to think to take my photographic device with me for the full shave setup when I went for a shave
took a small bottle of hot water from the kettle on the fire, a face towel and my pre-packed shave kit
& headed the off about 2km’s from our camp site to this beautiful location

    Shave kit contist of
my Restored W&B 13/16” ‘American razor’ pre stropped ready before leaving home
    E.J. Best badger brush
TOBS Grapefruit shave cream sample pot
    small stainless steel shave bowl,
    Gillette sensitive shave balm
the styptic pencil for just in case
took a hand mirror also but ditched it to use the ute side mirror.

anyway the shave went as follows:
a rather fresh 16°c morning with a cooler breeze coming of the lake,
Prep - a bit of warm water on the towel,
Lather - warm grapefruit TOBS getting colder with each pass,
Shave - 3 pass shave using the side mirror on the ute,
Clean up - wiped clean with the now rather cold face towel,
post shave - applied the Gillette aftershave balm

the best part was no-one for at least 2 km’s in any direction except for my 11 year old grandson who came for the ride, who was very intrigued & wide eyed checking out my 100+ year old razor & how it was used
he became even more curios when I told him to let me know when he is ready to shave & I will let him choose one in my collection & set him up & teach him to use it.

Life’s great and doesn’t get much better 5 days away camping with my family (all 12 of them), bathed in the lake & first shave in the wild.
    Saved,
    to shave another day.

Fish we did, but no real luck, the kids managed to pull 21 dirty caty's out of it from the banks but that was it, nothing edible unfortunately. Considering it is stocked with barra constantly we never saw a thing, mind you they are there just not where we were it would seem LOL

these are the best times for sure TC, we all had an awsome trip now they are already thinking of the next place for the next one.

nice to see your personal side comming to light Neil, your Naturist side would have loved the morning shave area but not the camp area so much maybe, not quite so secluded LOL

What - and spoil the line of those splendid socks? No way, Jose. Which, by the way, is my nickname at that particular camp. I must admit, I do hang out there often.
