Thread: Gillettes latest and 'best ever' razor... and PEGs??

I've just received an email from Amazon, listing what's "hot" for Christmas. Sadly, no sign of Christina Ricci, Nicole Kidman or Kylie Minogue. What did get my attention though, was Gillettes latest offerings to the wetshaving (aka "manual" shaving) community; namely their "Gillette Fusion ProGlide 3-in-1 Styler"... contraption. And so I had a browse on the Amazon page for it.

In amongst the usual blather and bumph, I came across some ingredients listed. As there's no mention of what product the ingredients are for, I can only assume it's for their shaving gel... which is odd as theres no mention of any other products on the page. Anyway, here's a rundown of the items...

• PEG-115M
• PEG-7M
• PEG-100
• Paraffinum Liquidum
• BHT
• Tocopheryl Acetate
• Aloe Barbadensis

Doing a bit of research on the not-very-natural-sounding PEG items, there's some worrying links to various cancers, along with allergies and various other unpleasant side-effects. BHT also has links to cancer. And tocopheryl acetate can "instigate immune system responses such as itching, burning, scaling, hives, and blistering of skin" (link). To be honest, there's only the aloe that's any good.

Not quite "the best a man can get", methinks.

Makes me rather glad I bought a tub of TOBS.

I wonder if the ingredient list is for the "moisturizer strip" on the razor? I can't believe that they discovered that a single blade is inferior to a twin blade or even five blade, lol I guess they are using the wrong type of single blade

It seems the moisturising strip always leaves me with a spotty chin. I can get a good shave out of one (don't judge me ) as I used between straights going dull and the Futur arriving but spotty, always.

I won't judge.

As long as you are wet shaving and striving to get your version of the best possible results, I don't care if you are using bacon grease and a Bic disposable.

I think that is the purpose of this site---results

Personally, I never could get any sort if decent result with a Bic (or bacon grease) but some of those goos (frequently cursed on forums) worked ok for me. However, I don't see myself going back

Regarding carcinogens. I suppose we should all limit our exposures, but as for me...I feel like I'm swatting at Mosquitos while standing in the middle of the swamp

You got that right. Nobody has any real idea of how many carcinogens and in what strengths we are exposed to every day. One thing for sure, nobody is getting out of this world alive.

So can we infer that you have tried using bacon grease as part of your shave routine?

Darn straight! Bacon grease has great glide and a wonderful smell that always conjures great feelings/memories.

No, not really (shrug). I do like bacon as part of my pre-pre-shave routine though.
