    Default Basque Country, for BladeRunner

I have write this message as a post in the SOTD area, but it was too off topic, better to place it here, as a theme.

BladeRunner is thinking about a place to spent some days, if you don't want to repeat Italy, the South of France and North of Spain, the Basque Country is a very interesting place, the best weather in August, September and the 1st 15 days of October.

    Bayonne

    Biarritz

    San Sebastian

    Bilbao

Olite, the Court of the ancient Kingdom of Navarre

The Guggenheim museum in Bilbao really is an incredible structure. When I went I spent more time looking at the building than the art inside!

This brings back so many memories when I was living in Europe. I spend many moments in Biarritz too windsurfing. Lots of ocean wind

Besides the Guggenheim museum crossing the white bridge in Bilbao is a must as is visitiing the old city and cathedral.

Ahh, this bring back some good memories. I spent two weeks in and around San Sebastian years ago. I got robbed in Pamplona just before I was going to jump in the race (prob. a lucky thing, lol) and I had so many good meals and a fantastic time overall. I also scored some really good cigars, a box of club Epicures millenium cigars was the gem of them. Thanks for sharing!

    José,
All I can say is you are the man . Thank you for this wonderful post. I love the suggestions...My wife and I (together or independently before our union) have visited virtually every corner of France and parts of Spain at one point or another...Beautiful places, really. Wouldn't mind doing it again.

Of the list you have, the only place I hadn't been is Olite...this could be an interesting option to consider. I wouldn't mind landing in Marseille, renting/hiring a car and driving through Bayonne/Biarritz in France and continuing onto San Sebastian/Bilbao/Olite)

We can't do it this year as my wife starts law school in Sept so we have to plan carefully around her schedule next year (for the week or two break that she will have...will find out when those are)

This is great Jose...I love it

Thanks my friend. You've got the wheels in my head turning again...they needed to get oiled up

    Hi Mikael,
    What race?

PS: Pamplona is also famous for Miguel Indurain...5-time winner of the "Tour de France".

All these places and so little time...I need to be independently wealthy so I can take off when I please to where I please.

Today Olite is a little village with a Middle age quarter, in a half-journey the visit is done .

From Marseille to the Pyrenées what a trip, a lot of miles,....

    Hi José,
It's not that bad really...1,000-1,200km or thereabouts. We're done longer than that. My wife and I actually prefer driving since it keeps us more connected to the local areas, on the ground. Flying is more efficient and quick, but you miss so much. Who know, if time becomes a constraint, then we can opt to fly into Marseille and out of Madrid.

Doesn't seem like you recommend Olite all that much. Are there any nice hiking/scenic places around Navarre or Olite?
