Thanked: 198well pcdad, i usually roast for my own use, have found it to be a better pot of coffee in the long run, and when you figure that if you find a local supplier, its even better cause no shipping cost. oh yes, and the guys i work with dont argue either when the coffee is fresher than that canned stuff.

Coffee roasting is a great hobby and the only way to make sure that you wont run out of fresh beans. I'm roasting everything myself nowadays and I don't regret it.

Thanked: 29I have heard that either an air popper or one of the popcorn poppers with the little stirrers in the bottom work well.
That said, I can't confirm since paradise roasters is about 2 blocks away. I assume you are using a burr grinder and a french press right?

I roast my own and find the best advice is just watch the beans like a hawk. I know there are machines where you can input all kinds of roasting profiles (I have a Gene Cafe) but mine is just set the time and temp and adjust on the fly.

Thanked: 198dustin, i use what is know as a whirly pop popcorn popper, the one with the crank in the handle, works great, and i can do upto a full pound of green beans easily. BigSpender, i do agree with you on that, i unfortunately cant see the beans when i roast, so i have to actually go off of the sound, and i do have a little trick or twelve that i use when i roast.

Thanked: 172I roast with a bread machine, for the agitation and heat gun as heat source. Most Bread machines have safety heat sensor so this has to be relocated outside of the machine. The manual way of this is with a dog bowl, wooden spoon and heat gun.
