    Default Henry Sears and Son/cleanup

Those that know me well know what a Mastodon I am with these Technological Terrors called ‘computers’!

    Enough of the whining!

Long story made short! A Woman who writes for my local paper had done an article about the resurgence in interest of using straight razor.

I contacted her, told her of my love of the art and offered to send pictures and such. She was delighted and said that she had her great grandfather’s straight razor and she sent pictures.

It's a Henry Sears and Son marked Barbers Queen 800 I on the backside of the blade. It also says Queen on the cast scales.

    Here’s what it looked like:

The other side was almost like new!

    Name: -8.jpg

Long story short, I asked her if she would allow me to 'clean it up' a bit and she said she didn't think that it was worth saving. I asked to please be allowed to try!! She said OK!

When I got it home, I scuffed the front of the blade up a bit and liked what I saw!!

After a little work with some 320 Wet and Dry sandpaper on the front of the blade, here's what I had!

Four hours later, I had finished the clean up, honed it and given it a full two pass shave! And what a great shave it was!

The dark spot on the blade is the reflection from my son's girlfriends camera.

    Name: DSC08694.jpg

I had to angle the blade because of the fading natural lighting and the flash was useless!! I have to thank my son's girlfriend for doing her best as beggars can't be choosy!

The name that's being reflected is the Name of our Local Newspaper!

The owner has a son who she says 'might' be interested in learning the age old art! I of course recommended that he join SRP and that I'd be glad to give him hands on instructions!

    I hope all will enjoy!

    Thanks for looking!

This is by no means the first such rescue Cudarunner has done. The recipients of his work rarely have any idea of how much careful labor has gone into the results. They're more lucky than they know.

Excellent work and great bit of a story. Did anything get published in the paper? I have read in some papers a very similar content. So it would be safe to say that these razors are on their way back somewhat!!
