I just unlatch the razor and move the arm out of the way when I am opening the blade up to use.
It hasn't presented me with any problems at all and I never noticed the tail of the latch arm catching...

I did my Kanoyama with a rolling pin and used some Downy fabric softener in the soak.
Worked really well.

G10...Tough stuff indeed.

Even the very thin pieces used as a scale liner are a bear to cut.
It has always worked great for me on wooden scales.

I think that if it were me, I would put a thin layer of G10 as backing just to be on the safe side.

Well Aaron, from the looks of all the wood in the pictures you posted, I don't think that you will have any problems finding a piece of stock for some new scales.

It is a bummer to lose so much...

If you keep it in your closet it will do double duty as a sachet.
My wife bought pieces of cedar with hooks to hang in our closets.
