I do my first strokes with the marker. After a few I know what I need to do and I immediately wipe the blade with lighter fluid on a tissue. I don't wait until I have made progress on the blade but get it off ASAP.

The few times I've used the marker test, I just left it there. It comes off soon enough with subsequent honing and stropping.

Well, given that you're the tatoo artist, I would assume that you could do it more precisely if you wanted to!

I've just been rubbing it off with my fingers after I'm done. Been using a Sharpie and it seems to come off easily. Since the residue is usually above the bevel there's little risk of cuts.

Thanks Bart, I was surprised to see how many posts there were before someone said alcohol. Though I imagine if lighter fluid is more readily available it would work just as well.

Lighter fluid is also good for removing tape residue from the spine. I hadn't tried alcohol but I will give it a go.

You guys make me nervous when you start mentioning Lighter Fluid and Goof Off and the likes, around razor scales....
So far I have used alcohol and WD-40 on all my razors with no ill effects.. I do not own any with the natural wood finishes like Bee's wax etc: so I can't speak for those....

Be very careful using strong chemicals around the scales.....

By the way should you wreck your scales, I do make custom ones to replace them with
